Anti-Aging: When is the right time to start injectables and fillers?

anti-aging

Our face is one of the biggest betrayers of advancing age, and unsurprisingly, anti-aging treatments are becoming increasingly popular as we try to delay the effects of getting older for as long as possible. There are lots of different treatments to choose from, including injectables and fillers.

Most people have heard of injectables, and most often associated the term with Botox. Botox is a neurotoxin that has been approved for use in cosmetic procedures, and principally for reducing lines and wrinkles that form across the forehead and around the eyes. Botox and similar neuromodulators work by blocking signals sent from the brain to the body, stopping the facial muscles from contracting and instead of keeping them relaxed. This also prevents the overlying skin from contracting, stopping wrinkles and folds from forming.

Dermal fillers are another amazing injectable treatment that can be used to counteract aging. They work by plumping out the skin so that it appears tighter, firmer, and smoother, reducing the signs of aging.

Injectables and fillers are particularly sought after due to the fact that they are affordable, produce excellent results, and have minimal downtime. But how do you know when you should start investing in these popular anti-aging techniques?

The common age for anti-aging treatments

Studies have shown that the majority of people who choose to get injectables and dermal fillers opt for them between the ages of 40 and 54. At this point, the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin will have started to slow down, and the signs of aging will have started to appear. These will include a loss of natural volume, particularly in the lower half of the face, hollowed cheeks, the development of lines, wrinkles, and sagging around the jowls. In the upper half of the face, lines can develop around the eyes, between the eyebrows, and across the forehead that makes us look older than we actually are.

Opt for pro-active anti-aging

While the 40s and 50s may be the most popular time for patients to choose to get injectables and fillers, many experts recommend that people are proactive when it comes to addressing the signs of aging. It may seem unnecessary to consider minimally invasive treatments when there are no visible signs of aging, but this can actually be the best time to begin an anti-aging regimen.

Listen to how you feel about your appearance

Every patient is different, and while some people may retain their youthful looks well into their 40s, most will find that their face starts to betray signs of aging a little earlier. Depending on your genetics and your lifestyle, you may even see evidence of wrinkles forming as early as your 20s. If you are experiencing signs of aging and it is adversely affecting your confidence and self-esteem, it’s time to take steps to address them and you should schedule an appointment with your chosen cosmetic surgeon.

Is it too late to get injectables or fillers?

It’s important to remember that it’s also never too late to make an improvement to your appearance. While you may not be able to turn back the clock on aging completely, injectables and fillers do still work later in life and if you choose to get treatment, you will see an improvement in the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Your cosmetic surgery provider will advise you which treatments you could benefit from and what sort of results you can expect.
